Music from Lake of Stars

Lake of Stars (LoS) is one of the dopest (and under-rated) music festivals in Africa, taking place in the Mangochi district on the beautiful Lake Malawi at the end of September each year. The festival brings local Malawian, other African and international artists together for a three-day fusion of some of the worlds freshest music! This year the festival hosted over 80 acts from over 10 countries and because we can't help but spread the good vibrations, we've hand picked just a few of the hottest Southern African acts who performed at LoS 2015 – check, it check it!

Mokoomba – Zimbabwe Headlining at the festival this year alongside Mzansi's Toya Delazy and Uhuru was one of Southern Africa's most up 'n coming acts – Mokoomba. A raw, afro-fusion band that is re-igniting the Zimbabwean music scene and setting dancefloors ablaze around the world. The band played on the second night of the festival filling the hot breeze with their unique blend of Tonga and Luvale traditional rhythms fused with doses of funk, ska, hip hop and Congolese soukous. These brothers have the definition of rhythm down and their busting energy is enough to wake your ancestors and any dancefloor dragon you gots hiding within... Check out Mokoomba's latest album, Rising Tide, on Soundcloud here:

Third Eye & Krazie G – Malawi These young hip hop cats collaborated on the last night of the festival and despite their heavy American influence, surprisingly delivered a uniquely African performance with their tight backing band and rhymes in the local Chichewa language. Krazie G is a Lilongwe-based rapper and is currently blowing up the local scene with his new track titled 'Mkono'. Third Eye, who has been heavily inspired by SA's Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP), is due to release his new album later this year… but in the meantime you can check out his dope track titled 'Hometown' here: Watch this space!

Zeus – Botswana We're afraid you may have been living in a cave if you haven't already heard of Motswana hip hop heavyweight, Zeus. But in case you haven't, the versatile MC has been rapping since the early 2000's and has since released numerous albums, received a gang of music awards and gained international acclaim as a firing rhyme spitter. Zeus now bounces between his hometown, Gaborone, and Jozi and has collabed with tons of Mzansi artists such as Tumi and AKA. Zeus was one of the closing acts at Lake of Stars 2015 and had the crowd bumpin' beneath the blood-moon! Check out Zeus ft. Tumi and AKA on the classic track #Datswasup:
